Different and beautiful shapes!

I decided to buy these Fairytale Windows after seeing them on Instagram. I did think long and hard about it, as they are expensive and also I wasn't sure how well they would fit in with my Grimms blocks as I didn't have any other Bauspiel (I have since also purchased the Lucent Cubes) . I just bought them as an addition to what we already have, as I really can't afford to splash out on the whole Bauspiel range. When they arrived I was surprised how big they are - really chunky and solid. The wood is nice and smooth, with beveled edges, the windows are really sparkly. Their little gems are held in place by tiny pegs which are visible.
When holding them to my face to look through the gem windows, I noticed a rather rancid smell from the oil used on the wood. This is a bit of a shame and it hasn't dissipated with time. I tried rubbing it off with surgical spirit and replacing it with my own homemade beeswax polish, which was an improvement, but I don't know if I can be bothered to do it 12 times. I get that plant-based oils can go off, but this really should have been addressed in the workshop. I always replace my polish when it starts to smell "off".
Apart from that (which isn't really a deal breaker) they have been veey useful. They are a different scale to the Grimms obviously, but they do sit very nicely on top of many of the Grimm's blocks, making charming little roof windows. We have made many beautiful palaces with them. The children think they look like stained glass church windows! They can also be used lined up in a circle on their own as a little mini palace or temple. I love the variety of shapes, my favourite ones are the curvy pointy shapes. They all look very pretty with the sunlight coming through them!
