A really simple sensory or rainy day activity to try is making your own play dough!
Here's how we do it...
INGREDIENTS
220g flour
110g salt
220ml water (or coloured water, juice if you’re making a coloured or scented dough)
2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1.5 tbsp of Cooking Oil (sunflower or vegetable works well)
[PLUS 2 tbsp of spices if you’re using any of these to scent/colour]
METHOD
- Put all the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix them together.
- Add the dry ingredients into a large non stick pan/saucepan over a low heat and add in the water and oil.
- Keep stirring everything together over the heat until the mixture forms a ball. This should take a couple of minutes.
- Put the ball of dough onto a chopping board to cool down before kneading. Be careful as it will be very hot!
Store your dough in an air tight container in a cool place and it should last a couple of months, as long as you are kneading and playing with it regularly.
